Walker & Wheelchair Assessments
What are Walker & Wheelchair Assessments...
Our Occupational Therapists are authorizers with the ADP (Assistive Devices Program) and perform comprehensive assessments to determine the best walker, wheelchair, or scooter to meet a person's current or, perhaps future, needs. These assessments ensure that the assistive device meets your needs in terms of seating, comfort, support, and functionality. The Occupational Therapist will ensure that your chair can move within your home environment in a safe manner. Each chair is selected based on various factors such as a person's ability to propel/manoeuvre, upper and lower body strength, sitting balance, endurance, cognition, and your home environment. Once an assistive device is recommended, the Occupational Therapist will discuss the options with a local vendor and have it delivered for a trial.

To qualify for financial assistance through the ADP program, you must be an Ontario resident with a valid health card, who has a disability that requires the device for at least 6 months.

“A wheelchair is an extension of the user's body. Therefore, it is critical that any prescription for a new wheelchair must match the user's current expectations, preferences, physical needs and functional requirements that emerge out of his or her interactions with the environment.”
